World No. 2 women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-Thinaah Muralitharan enjoyed a smooth passage into the next round, defeating Hong Kong’s Chu Wing Chi and Yu Yi Kiu 21-9, 21-9.

Another women’s doubles pair, Goh Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing, are also expected to advance in their opening round match today.

In men’s doubles, world-ranked duo Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik were unable to redeem their Hong Kong Open campaign after falling to England’s Ben Lane and Sean Vendy 13-21 13-21.

Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi also bowed out after a narrow defeat to Chinese Taipei’s Lee Jhe Hui-Yang Po Hsuan, losing 24-22 20-22 21-17.

Meanwhile, Tee Kai Wun-Man Wei Chong came through a hard-fought all-Malaysian clash against Nur Mohd Azryn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong, winning 21-19 21-12.

Arif Junaidi-Yap Roy King kept Malaysia’s hopes for a men’s doubles title alive after advancing to the next round with a 21-19 23-21 victory in a hard-fought match against Denmark’s world No. 3 Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.
